Join us for an insightful session hosted by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), designed to help small and medium-sized space companies capture a slice of the rapidly growing global space market. The session will kick off with an introduction to existing Government export support available, followed by an engaging panel discussion moderated by Ruth Bretts, Deputy Head of Space at DBT.
Panellists from government and industry will share their expertise on the biggest challenges faced when exporting and provide practical strategies to help overcome these barriers. This session offers a valuable opportunity to learn and network, paving the way for your company to land and deliver for customers overseas.
Speaker Information

Dr Tudor Williams is a strategist in the fields of space, communications, semiconductors, and defence. He currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Filtronic, where he collaborates closely with business development and engineering teams to shape the company’s technical strategy and roadmaps. In this role, he also manages industry and academic partnerships and secures funding for strategic roadmap projects.
Dr. Williams holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Swansea University and a PhD in RF/Microwave Engineering from Cardiff University. Prior to his tenure at Filtronic, he was the Technical Director at the Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult. There, he led a multidisciplinary team of engineers specialising in power electronics, photonics, RF and microwave technology, and advanced packaging.

Helen Roberts joined the UK Space Agency in March 2010 and was appointed to the role of General Support Technology Programme (GSTP), Programme Manager in 2018. A career civil servant she has worked in a variety of roles across government, developing and building on her skillset.
During her time at the UK Space Agency some of her most notable achievements have included UK delegate to the European Space Agency Industrial Policy Committee; leading on the successful delivery and evolution of the biennial, highly acclaimed UK Space Conference since its inception in 2011 until 2021; the initiation and development of the UK Space Agency’s Business Incubation Network; and the implementation of a highly effective and transparent GSTP process, which has resulted in an unparalleled level of interest from the sector, particularly from start-ups and micro-SMEs, and providing support to them in the development of their new and innovative technologies. She is a qualified and experienced project and programme manager.

Ruth Bretts was appointed Deputy Head of Space at the Department for Business and Trade in May 2023. Her team generate and land private investment into the UK space sector, support UK-based space companies win export contracts, and drive policy development that breaks down barriers to growth.
Prior to that she worked on international space strategy in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and before that, public spending at HM Treasury.

Andy Grey is a science and technology entrepreneur, financing and growing businesses seeking to commercialise research in sectors such as space, quantum and biotech. Andy is a scientist and engineer by background, with a Masters in Nuclear Physics and early career in satellite systems engineering and space imaging. He has worked with leading consultancy firms on technology development and £bn mergers and acquisitions covering Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia. Andy spent time developing space strategy with the scientists at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory and is passionate about growing the UK space economy. Andy founded Exotopic in 2019, expanding into international markets and recently opening a subsidiary in Australia. He is on the Executive Committee of UKspace and co-chairs the Space Exports Group.
